Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Jan 18 – Jan 24)

Fairly strong PSP presence in the latest Japanese charts thanks to the generous amount of major releases recently. Sega and it’s Chief Producer Shuntaro Tanaka should be happy with Senjou no Valkyria 2 (aka Valkyria Chronicles 2) portable debut, a slight improvement over its PS3 debut (77,000) almost two years ago.

Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Jan 11 – Jan 17)

Quite surprised at Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep being able to hold on to the top spot actually. But reviews and words of mouth have been positive for the game, which has now sold more than 600,000 copies. A healthy supply of new titles keep PSP on top of the hardware chart as well.

Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Jan 4 – Jan 10)

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep with close to half a million copies sold (slightly more than that if you like MediaWorks :) top the latest Japanese charts easily. This is in-line with all the big Square releases for PSP and better than Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, which opens with 300,000 copies back in May last year. Birth by Sleep’s PSP bundle also helps the system tops the hardware charts with more than 145,000 units sold.

Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Dec 21 – Dec 27)

Just want to get this out before I forgot :) No PSP titles in the Top 10 for the week although Phantasy Star Portable 2 appears to do well at 12th (full chart here).

Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Dec 14 – Dec 20)

Banpresto’s sexy little strategy game Queen’s Blade: Spiral Chaos made it to the Top 10 of the latest Japanese chart with more than 50,000 copies sold in Final Fantasy XIII’s launch week. Without figures for the digital versions, it’s hard to say if Phantasy Star Portable 2’s 400,000 copies sold is impressive or not compared to the previous version, which I believe sold more than 600,000 copies so far.

Pretty late with this :) Naruto Shippuuden: Narutimate Accel 3 went off to a pretty good start with more than 76,000 copies sold as both Phantasy Star Portable 2 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus did well to hold on to their Top 10 spots in a fiercely competitive week.

Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Nov 30 – Dec 6)

One of the biggest week for PSP this year with the release of the latest titles in three highly popular series. Phantasy Star Portable 2’s 280,000 copies doesn’t seem impressive compare to the 340,000 opening of the first game but since the game is also available on PSN, it’s hard to really know how the game performs at this point. On the other hand, Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus, which doesn’t has a PSN release, sold more than 230,000 copies, almost the same as the first game. Konami’s famous adventure game Tokimeki Memorial 4 sold more than 40,000 copies.

Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Nov 23 – Nov 29)

No major releases for PSP last week except Nippon Ichi’s PS2 port La Pucelle: Ragnarok, which sold around 10,000 units but not enough to squeeze into the Top 10. Layton Kyouju to Majin no Fue is off to a massive start as usual with more than 300,000 copies sold as DS begin to pull away from PSP with big margin again with combined sales of more than 100,000 units. Stay tuned for next week charts, which will be interesting with the launch of Phantasy Star Portable 2 (which opens with 200,000 units sold according to Sinobi, excluding PSN downloads) and Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus (170,000 copies).

Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Nov 16 – Nov 22)

Great start for DSi LL with more than 100,000 units sold on its first week, which also saw the return of Pokemon and Tomodachi Collection to the top two spots. PSP holds up quite well though, selling more than 30,000 units but the same cannot be said of PSP go, which continues its free fall to only around 6,000 units. Armored Core Silent Line Portable is the best PSP debut this week with around 18,000 copies sold.
