1. 火山:素材ツアー
Send the ticket from blue supply box to the red supply box. Take a chance to get to know the volcano and collect useful items.
2. 激突!雪獅子ドドブランゴ
This is the emergency quest in the Village ★★★ Quests.
3. 沼地に降り立つ赤い影
You are up against フルフル (Furu Furu) again here, however compare to the one in the snow mountains in Village ★★ Quests, this is obviously much more stronger.
Prepare yourself with plenty of health potions, antidotes for those poisonous monster and pool of waters, whetstones and hot drinks. On the other hand, the ideal weapon is one that carries fire effect, other effects won't do any extra damage to フルフル (Furu Furu).
It's movement areas are fortunately limited, they are 9, 4 and 2. The latter is also it's resting area. Area 4 is the tougher area to fight as those イーオス (Iiosu) and poisonous water pools will keep you really busy.
The strategy is the same as in Village ★★ Quests or training 3 in the Individual Training. However, you'll obviously need more time to kill it and avoid being too eager to attack. I would say one or two hit and run especially if you are carrying a great sword to avoid being charged by it's electricity. And to stay further away or best still, just keep running around when it's getting really angry as it will scream a lot more than the previous versions. Avoid those thunder it blows out at all cost if you want to stay alive.
4. 孤高の黒狼鳥
This quest will appears once you've beaten 10 イァンクック (Yian Kut-ku), you can find one in the Village ★★ Quests and another two in Village ★★★ Quests. Or visit the Individual Training for more.
イャンガルルガ (Yian Garuruga) is another monster migrated from PS2's Monster Hunter 2, and unless you already owns a really damaging weapon, you are going to need plenty of time killing it, so you may save this for later.
For preparation, brings the usual health potions (plenty of them), bombs (you can't use this if your weapon carry the water effect), antidotes (解毒薬, the bird has two way to poison you), power juice (強走薬), whetstones and flash bombs (閃光玉). Flash bombs are effective here as it seems to last longer than usual, though it's not easy to strike it. Even if the monster is seeing the stars, you won't have too many hits as well because it will attacks as usual even though it can't move. For weapons, you should bring ones that carry the water effect, which seems to hurt more. Another suggestion for weapons is the Bowguns, there are higher spots in the areas where you can safely stand and just concentrate on attack.
イャンガルルガ (Yian Garuruga) attacking moves are not unlike イァンクック (Yian Kut-ku) though it does have two extra poison attacks those fiery fire balls. The areas it visit are mainly 3, 4, 2 and 1. First timer will have to unleash it in area 6 first. Area 6 is the best place to fight if you are visiting this quest for the first time as you will be really busy in other areas, with those trees, leaves and smaller monsters. Those revisiting the quest should clear those annoying pigs and monkeys in area 1, 2, 3 and 4 first if you really want to have an easier time.
While dangerous, it's head is the weakest spot and hurt the most, you can get one or two strikes when it was blowing fire balls or taking a short breather. Staying clear of its path and wait for your chance to hit the head seems to be the best strategy. Defending helps a lot, especially when you ended standing in front of it, pressing the right shoulder button especially with Great Swords will protect you from most of its attacks.
5. 2頭のドスランポス
Take down two ドスランポス (Velocidrome) in the jungle. The two of them will sometimes move in pair, so prepare for a busy time in area 3, 8 and 6. Their jumps are pretty far and precise, so avoid standing still right infront of them.
6. 巨大昆虫、大発生!
Kill 20 カンタロス (Kantaros), they are everywhere on the map. And their items are useful for weapons upgrade, so try not to destroy them completely. Bring a Blade that carries some poison effects and most of the time, one slash will get them poisoned, wait for a few seconds and they will be dead, which is when you should start carving.
A ババコンガ (Baba Konga) is here as well, you have face it before in the main quest and training, so don't miss this chance to grab for more items.
7. 決戦!一角竜モノブロス
Kill a モノブロス (Monoblos) in the desert, it can be found at area 7 (you'll have to go here to unleash it here), 3, 5 and when it's really weak, area 9. The special items to bring here are hot drinks (the desert is cold at night) and sonic bombs. I find weapons with thunder effects are effective against it as well.
One of the major obstacles is the smaller monsters, their constant attacks could prove fatal if you are unlucky, so some clearing works need to be done if you want to have a smoother time.
However, モノブロス (Monoblos) should be pretty easy at this stage for you. Its attacks are rather predictable, the most common one is to run and slide at you, which can still hit you if you are just slightly away from its path due to its huge size. Just like ダイミョウザザミ (Daimyou Zazami) in the Village ★★★ Quests, it likes to dig underground and hit you from below. However, you will know where it is coming from and if you make use of your sonic bomb, it will not only draw it out but also stun it for a while.
The monster can easily stuck against the wall as well, especially in the smaller area of 7, you should try to get one or two hit straight at its head here.
8. 白銀の一角竜
This quest will be available once you completed the above quest. Obviously モノブロス亜種 is the much stronger version of モノブロス (Monoblos), so the same strategy applies here.
Its movement areas are 1, 7, 3, 5 and 9, which is also where it rest. The items to bring are cool drinks (it's daytime in the desert) and sonic bombs. While it is effective against the monster, I find it hard to really make the sonic bombs strike at the right spot. Sometimes throwing it immediately after the monster is completely underground will works but not all the time.
My weapon of choice is the Great Sword with thunder effects. The best time to attack is when it's stuck in the wall as in Quest 7. I find the best place to do this is in the middle of area 7, just stand there with your back against the wall and lure the monster to do its trademark sliding attack. Obviously you will need to hold the R button so that you won't get hurt.
The thing has huge health, so you will need to constantly attack him if you don't want to run out of time, so the best way to deals more damage when not in area 7 is again, after its sliding attack. Just go in and make one or two slashes at its feet, beware of its tail though. There are a few areas that has higher grounds that you can climb, make use of those to take a breather or use the whetstones. Gunners can even attack from there, without the worries of being attacked.
9. 湿地帯の鎌蟹
This quest will be unlocked once you have beaten ショウグンギザミ (Shougun Gizami) in Quest 13 and it's the same monster, so see below for a brief strategy against it.
The areas to go in the swamp are 5, 4 and 6.
10. 挟撃のイャンクック!
Capture or kill イァンクック (Yian Kut-ku) and its stronger version イャンクック亜種(青) in the swamp area. There are some hairy moments but this is really an exciting quest as both will sometimes appear in the same area. Fortunately the areas are clear of smaller monsters and because of their larger size, they will sometimes run into each other, giving you much needed space.
Bring a weapon with the water or ice effects. The items to bring are paintballs, sonic bombs, flash bombs, traps (落とし穴) and paralyze bombs (捕獲用麻酔玉). The last two items for capturing purposes, you can only bring one trap at a time, so bring along the materials (net (ネット) and trap tool (トラップツール)) and combine them after you use the first one.
The areas to go are 2, 4, 5 and 8. Area 2 is probably your busiest ground and it's also the monsters' resting place. By now, you are probably very familiar with イァンクック (Yian Kut-ku) or just revisit the strategy here if you are not. My strategy to capture two birds is to concentrate on the weaker one first and deal with the larger version later. It's much easier if you use your bombs effectively, I find the flash bomb can last longer compare to the sonic bomb, though the monsters won't be able to attack you if you use the latter.
11. イーオスたちの親玉
Switching ground to the volcano. An easy task for a start, ドスイーオス (Dosui-osu) is the larger version of イャンクック (Dosios) and tour from area 2 to 4, 8 and 5. The volcano area is rich in all kinds of coals and stones for weapons upgrade, so remember to bring some pickaxe and head to the last two areas in the map, where all the cool stuff located. The items you can carve from the monster are useful for the poison resistance range of armory as well.
12. 見えざる飛竜、バサルモス!
You'll be taking on a バサルモス (Basarumos) in the hot volcano. The monster is hard as rock and it's not easy to beat him with swords or blades alone. Bombs will make your job a lot easier, so does cool drinks, sonic bombs and whetstones.
It tour around areas 7, 6, 4 and 2 and chances are it will disguise itself as a rock, so beware of those suspicious looking group of rocks in those areas. It will resurface if you are close enough.
The monster moves rather slow, so its easy to get a hit or two when it's making turn but there's not much damage to gain here as you are essentially hitting a rock. The more effective way is to stun it with sonic bombs and place your bombs right underneath it.
13. 炎の山の大将軍
ショウグンギザミ (Shougun Gizami) is not unlike Daimyou Zazami in Village ★★★ Quests, they certainly moves the same way although Shougun Gizami spots new attacks that require even faster thinking from you. It's claw attacks are sharper but usually pressing the X button while running should evade it if you are too close to it. You can even gain quite a number of hits by moving to his side and attack from there.
First timer will meet him in area 3, and it will travel in areas 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Do carry a weapon with the thunder effects if you have one, there's more chance to stun it. Other items to bring are cool drinks and paintballs.
Just like Daimyou Zazami, it tunnels and like to send you flying if you stand on a spot for a second too long. I always move to its back immediately after it starts tunneling and keep moving left and right, you can gain one or two hits as well when it resurfaces.
14. イーオス討伐作戦!
Despatch 20 イーオス (Ios) in the volcano areas. Their items are useful for armors and weapons, so don't forget to carve more. バサルモス (Basarumos) from Quest 12 is hiding among the rocks as well.
15. ガミザミの群れを掃討せよ!
Kill 10 ガミザミ (Gamizami), those speedy crabs in the volcano areas. ドスイーオス (Dosui-osu) from Quest 11 is in here as well.
16. 燃石炭採掘指令
You are ordered to deliver 15 燃石炭 (Coal) to red supply box. You can only hold 10 of them at a time, so you'll have to make the trip twice. Bring lots of pickaxes with you, especially the Iron Pickaxe, the volcano is full of valuable items. ショウグンギザミ (Shougun Gizami) is around the areas as well.
17. 氷点下の支配者
クシャルダオラ (Kusharudaora) is the strongest monster so far in the game. The Wind Dragon's attacks are varied and it has this annoying wind that surrond it all the time, it's ice attacks can reach quite far as well.
For preparation, bring a weapon that has the thunder or dragon effect. The items to bring are 強走薬 (Power Juice), 強走薬グレート (Mega Juice), 解氷剤 (Ice breaker), 爆雷針 (Lightning Rod), 閃光玉 (Flash Bomb), ホットドリンク (hot drink) and materials that combined to create these items, especially the flash bombs. It only flies between area 8 (meet it for the first time here) and 6, and the area are cleared of other creatures, that's just about the only advantage you have here.
Being a Wind Dragon, Kusharudaora is good at both land and air attacks. And it's impossible to hit it while it's on air, this is where your flash bombs come into play, throw at its direction to bring it down and hence plenty of time for you to attack. There are two ways to stop its wind attacks, both are tricky. You can either throw the 毒投げナイフ (poison knife) at its horn to poison it or hit its horn repeatedly, though I think both are tricky and the blurry environment doesn't help either.
However, hitting its head is the most effective and fastest way to hurt it. You got a few chance to do this, when it got stunned by your flash bombs, when its blowing out ice and when it steps backward.
The dragon will flies away after being beaten, leaving you nothing to carve but it does reduces its health by a certain amount the next time you meet it again in the same quest.
18. 風をまとう古龍
This mission will appears randomly after the quest above was completed. It's クシャルダオラ (Kusharudaora) again but you are up against it deep in the jungle, with plenty of tree branches to make your task even harder.
It will only moves between area 3 and 4, and the same strategy above applies here.
絶対強者
The star of the show so far. ティガレックス (Tigarex) is one of the new monsters exclusive to MHP 2nd and needless to say, has more attacks and longer health.
Bombs, and many of them is one of the best way to save you from endless hacking. The best moment to set it up (I usually place two big bomb with one small bomb to ignite them) is to stun it with flash bombs. Other items to bring are 強走薬 (Power Juice), 強走薬グレート (Mega Juice), ホットドリンク (hot drink), 落とし穴 (Pitfall Trap), シビレ罠 (Stun Trap), 捕獲用麻酔玉 (Capture bomb) and obviously many many health potions. A sword with thunder effect will again, make your task easier.
Its areas are almost only 7 and 8, with 3 it's resting place and your best chance to capture it for best items. It's a good idea to clear the monkeys in 7 as well.
Its attacking style are many and it's quick, but it's not unavoidable. I find the usual way of running in circle around the monster applicable here. But expect to do plenty of run and jump (press X button while running) as the monster is large in size and it can still hit you even if you think you have just avoid it.
There are a few chances to attack it, but none of them fail safe, just keep your health level high enough at all time (Eat food that will extend your health in the kitchen before you start or bring 栄養剤グレート (Mega Nutrients) with you). Apart from stunning it with flash bomb, you can stand against the wall and lure the monster over, there's a chance to get it stuck in the wall and free attacks for you. Other riskier chances are when it's biting the air or after it's doing one of its sliding attack. Since standing face to face against it is never a good option, I find attacking its feet is not a bad options at all. Be extra careful and avoid risky attacks when it enter rage mode, it really doesn't worth the risk as the damage are apparently 1.5 times higher than usual.
To capture Tigarex, you have to slash until it's struggling to move and flies to area 3. Which allows you to use both kind of traps, I alway hit the monster once or twice before throwing 捕獲用麻酔玉 (Capture bomb).
