Weekly Famitsu gave Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep a 10-page feature including interviews with Tetsuya Nomura and music composer Yoko Shimomura in its latest issue. KH fans will surely have read the translation elsewhere but here it is if you haven’t. Since the game will be out in a few days’ time, you probably want to skip this if you’re worry about spoilers :)
Events from the amazing looking CG opening movie (with Utada Hikaru‘s “Hikari” being used again, this time as Birth by Sleep’s theme song) were revealed in this trailer showing some interesting moments, including scenes of Terra, Aqua and Ventus struggling badly in their battle against Master Xehanort. Another intriguing scene has Sora in his Kingdom Hearts II‘s outfit at Destiny Islands, is this what happened after the ending of KHII?
The three looking at the good luck charm Aqua made for them and it looks like the one Kairi gave to Sora in the first KH game.
Terra and Aqua during a training session. Will destiny means they have to fight each other for real in future?
Xehanort emerges from a door with the young and mysterious Vanitas beside him. The two have made their appearance in the secret movie of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and look set to make Terra, Aqua and Ventus lost control of their destiny in Birth by Sleep.
The epic battle with Xehanort will takes place in an unknown place where thousands of swords, which are belong to those who lost their life in the Keyblade Senki (War of Keyblade), can be seen in the background. In the face of an impossible task, Ventus can be seen telling Terra and Aqua “Please wipe me out.” Another screen shows Ventus lying unconscious on the ground with Xehanort watching.
A familiar scene from KHII Final Mix where Ventus can be seen dashing towards Xehanort to save Terra.
Xehanort appears to gain control of Terra and Ventus’ mind, the former can be seen following the orders of Xehanort (above right) while the latter appears motionless (above left).
Aqua looking at her good luck charm. She can be seen fighting alongside King Mickey with Terra and Ventus no where to be seen. Although he appears in the same location with his Star Seeker, Mickey’s real motive is still unknown at this point.
A student of Xehanort, Vanitas is said to possess great power and can easily beat the three main characters. In the battle with Ventus, his mysterious mask appears to be melting but only part of his eye is shown in the trailer and the screen above.
Lia (above left) and Isa (above right) were introduced in Radiant Garden, already home to many KH characters, as Organization XIII members. The former looks like the younger version of Axel while the latter appears to be the younger Saix, both have appeared in the recent (where Saix can be heard addressing Axel as Lia in a scene). Lia naughty boy image is the complete opposite of the cool-headed Isa. Ventus will meet them in Birth by Sleep with Lia can be seen telling him “Remember, we are friends”.
Winnie the Pooh is the character to look for if you want to upgrade your commands. The Command Board system is set in the world of Hundred Acre Wood with honey as the currency for upgrades.
Activated with triangle button, and will charge itself once it’s used, Deck Command lets you unleashed cool moves like Firaga Burst above.
Once the Command Gauge reaches MAX, and depending on the conditions met, the character’s Command Style can have three different stages of changes. One of the most powerful finishing moves for Ventus is Air Rider (above left) which allows him to attack while riding on his Keyblade. Aqua (Ghost Drive, above right) and Terra’s (called Blaze Charge) finishing moves were also revealed.
A special ability that all the three characters possessed, Shoot Lock-On allows players to lock-on to multiple targets and attack in one go. Ventus’ Shoot Lock-On is called Pulse Bomb (above left) while Terra’s is called Ultima Cannon (above right). Also shown in the mag is Aqua’s Shoot Lock-On which is called Bubble Blast.
Command Charge is the interface to produce new Commands by mixing two different Commands (Aerial Break Aero = Aerora in the screen above). By attaching special items, you can also produce Commands with special effects.
For the first time in the series, there will be Ice Shops in the game beside those run by the Moogles (shown above, items also appear to be presented in 3D holographic styles in the game in another screen in the mag). Ice Shops, which are useful for Command Style, can also produce Commands for use in Deck Command.
Ice Shops are run by Huey and players pick the kind dessert they would like to make by paying certain amount of money. The Volcano Curry in the screen above can produce the Fire Blizzard finishing move.
