Here’s a game I almost forgot, Irem’s Poncotsu Roman Daikatsugeki Bumpy Trot: Vehicle Battle Tournament is finally ready for release in Japan after a five months delay. The game is not the latest RPG from the series but a “Junk Battle Action Game” instead with the trademark mechs (Trotmobile) fighting each other on arenas of various conditions.
To promote the game, Irem has a special page at Famitsu with heavy focus on the game’s multiplayer aspect. When setting up a multiplayer match, player can choose the team they want to be in. Except from fighting yourself, the game allows for all kind of set-up like 1 Vs 1 Vs 2 or 1 Vs 3. Players will then proceed to the rules setting screen where they can pick an arena and specify the amount of fund for preparation. The fund will be used to buy parts to customize your Trotmobile, different arena will require different parts.
Five arenas were revealed so far, fighting can take place in a jail-like environment, jungle, rocks where the mechs’ jumping ability are crucial, slippery snowy surface or on a volcano-like arena with lava all over the place. The game is set for release on July 10th in Japan.
Irem’s last PSP game was Ikuze! Gen-San: Yuuyake Daiku Monogatari and it did rather poorly last week, debuting at 50th spot in Media Create chart with less than 2,000 copies sold. Weekly Famitsu’s reviewers complaint about the game’s one-hit-dead and the loading time. Let’s hope the cute Trotmobiles will do well so that Irem can make more PSP games.
