Capcom Kick Start Monster Hunter Festa 08

Like last year, Monster Hunter Festa 08 is held for hunters all over Japan to meet up, compete, level up their characters, shake hands with the developers and buy Monster Hunter goods. The first event for the year was held in Fukuoka yesterday and Famitsu has plenty of pictures from the event, where 2,200 hunters came and thousands of monsters were slayed.

This is also the place for the preliminary rounds of the nationwide Monster Hunter contest (trophies shown below). Eight winning teams here will have a chance to go to the nationwide championship should they win their next challenges. The monster selected for the preliminary round is the King Kong-like and Famitsu favorite Baba Konga.

Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto was on stage to meet the hunters. So did the huge figure with Rathalos Armor which weight 30kg in weight, half year in production and was present in the Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G launch. The game does has an armor set like this and it takes multiple trips to the wild beating the same big monster in order to make armors like this. So the developers drew a big laughter when in was revealed this armor set on show only uses card boxes. Tsujimoto and three key staff from the game later show off their skill fighting a pair of HipKnock.
Monster Hunter Festa was credited as one of the reason Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G selling well and Famitsu noticed crowd has increased considerably compare to last year. The next event will in Tokyo in two days time.
