Confirmed: No Online Play For WE2008 PSP

When Konami put up the one-page official website for Winning Eleven: Ubiquitous Evolution 2008, the PSP version of the series’ latest entry, a small note said that the game’s Network Mode supports infrastructure at no cost (image above is the screenshot with the old info). I just made a revisit to the site and the text is no more, instead it now says there is a specification change and the game only support Ad Hoc wireless play. Here is the official statement on this change from Konami Japan.
I am currently playing the PS3 version and the online mode is anything but smooth, looks like the problems just gone too big for Konami to solve and ultimately decided to remove the feature from the PSP version at all. Not that I have high hope for this but one good reason to buy the game has just gone.
There’s no further update to the official website but the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation (picture here) has a little report on the game and two features were highlighted. The interaction with the PS2 version of the game and custom background music. The game is set to come out in Japan and Europe on Jan 24th and Jan 25th respectively.
Update: Eurogamer has more details on the game (Pro Evolution Soccer 2008).
