Getting R-Type Tactics

R-Type Tactics

I like to read the “Impression PS+” section of Famitsu PlayStation + (monthly version of Weekly Famitsu that focus on all things PS), it offers a more “complete” review (but without scores) of the game as most of the time the writer had either completed the game or somewhere near there. The latest issue had an impression on Irem promising but overlooked shooting-turn-strategy game R-Type Tactics.

R-Type Tactics

The writer, an R-Type fans by the way, had plenty of good things to say about the game despite initial doubts about his favorite shooting game went the strategy route. He noted that the developers did a fine job of retaining plenty of R-Type’s shooting roots while skillfully implemented the SRPG elements and R-Type fans won’t feel disappointed with the game. For those who never play an R-Type game (that’s me), they won’t feel alienated as the game is a fine strategy game even without R-Type on it’s title and as long as you are not a strategy game hater.

R-Type Tactics

However, the writer did has one gripe about the otherwise perfect game, complaining the fact that the story in the early stages is rather slow, most probably to ease new player into the game. On to the “official review” in the Weekly Famitsu, the game received an impressive 8,9,7,7 scores with the common complaint being the rather frequent loading time. What’s more, even Kotaku and Next-Gen love it. That said, I am going to order a copy now.
