God Eater: NBGI’s Local Multiplayer Focused Action Game Coming This Fall

At first glance, this is probably the most obvious Monster Hunter clone yet and it’s coming from Bandai Namco. According to the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, God Eater will be coming to PSP this fall in Japan and as the headline screams, it’s a 4-player action game, much liike MonHun. However, the similarities doesn’t end there as it also features giant monsters, fairly elaborate character creation tool and weapons customization options (one of the screens also shows how you can wear different armors for different body parts).
In the game, Aragami is some kind of mysterious creatures that suddenly appear in the world, which is set in near future. A group of young fighters called God Eater will be earth’s only hope against these giant monsters. There is a heavy focus on its weapon system, which is being called Deus Ex Machina, where players get to choose the form of their weapons to be either Blade, Gun or Predator Form and they all look super elaborate and bulky.
The co-op multiplayer will features support system that allows players to help those who are injured. Finally, and unlike MonHun, there is actually a Story Mode for the game and five NPCs are introduced so far. So what do you think? I don’t mind a MonHun-like game but I think a drastically different art style will probably do them a lot of goods. More mag scans after the jump.

July 2nd, 2009 at 2:08 amNamco Bandai did file a trademark for God Eater in the US, so this one’s atleast got a chance to be released to the US.
July 2nd, 2009 at 3:23 amyeah…even the interface in these screens bears a striking resemblance to Monster Hunter but it does look really cool all the same. The big monsters combined with the post-apocalyptic sci-fi style…hell maybe it’ll be what SMT: Imagine should have been :B
If it comes out in English I’d defiantly give it a spin.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:29 amMonster hunter was the last thing that came to mind when I saw this. It’s more of a kick ass Final fantasy styled game. And the graphics are astonishing! If they hadn’t of said it had 4 player support would you of thought of monster hunter? Damn I’m looking forward to this!
