Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Aug 18 – Aug 24)

Football fever hits the charts this week with Konami’s J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship and Level 5’s Inazuma Eleven sold 80,000 and 40,000 copies respectively. Inazuma Eleven is especially interesting for me, and hope its release means White Knight Chronicles is next on Level 5’s list. For PSP, Phantasy Star Portable continues its charge towards besting the original Monster Hunter Portable’s sales with another 31,000 copies sold this week.

On to the hardware, expect some drop in sales for PSP after the PSP-3000 announcement last week. Sinobi also noted a lot more PSP in the used market and the system is no where to be seen in the Top 25 of Amazon Japan chart where it usually has a few colors sitting next to each other.

Next week we shall see if Fate/Tiger Colosseum Upper can make it to the charts, the previous game sold 50,000 copies in its first week. Afrika for PS3 seems to get plenty of attention in the Japanese forums and I’m eager to see the actual response.
