Japan Weekly Software Ranking (Dec 15 - Dec 21)

Dissidia Final Fantasy sold 489,000 copies on its first week and top the latest Japanese charts without fights. It’s also Square Enix’s best opening week for a PSP game, although it only beats Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII by 3,000 copies based on Media Create’s data (Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has the best start for a PSP game with 820,000 in March 2008). With this week being Christmas week and good words of mouth, I think it will continues to do well at least before year end.

Dissidia and Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G PSP The Best are the only PSP games on the Top 30 though, thanks to the huge amount of sales needed to even make it to the 30th spot. PS3 version of Gundam Musou 2 took the second spot with 176,000 copies sold. Nintendo softwares still dominate the rest of the charts with plenty of long running titles in the Top 30.

In the hardware department, Dissidia and its bundles doubled PSP sales to 148,000 according to early Enterbrain data. However, DS and Wii also gotten their own holidays boost, so no change in position for PSP in the hardware chart. No major PSP release next week, I hope Dissidia will continue to do well because it’s a really deep and more importantly, a fun game.
