Japan Weekly Software Ranking (July 28 - Aug 3)
Phantasy Star Portable debut at the top of the Japanese charts with a surprisingly huge number this week at around 340,000 copies. That’s the fourth best start for a PSP game after Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. With Japanese retailers confident that the game will continue to sell well throughout the summer, it will be interesting to see what’s next for the series from Sega.
It’s an interesting week as well with so many new releases and Nintendo’s Rhythm Tengoku Gold should be another NDS game that will stay in the charts for a long long time, the game start with an impressive 213,000 copies. Soul Calibur IV, which Namco just announced they have shipped out 2 million copies, sold around 110,000 of them in Japan (75,000 on the PS3).
