MGS PO: Portable Blog #13

Finally, I am done with the game on Normal difficulty. Like many of the reviewers said, the game is pretty short, but I am still quite surprise that it actually ends so fast. And even more surprising is that the bosses just got easier to beat towards the end of the game. Even though they are different type of game, I think Killzone: Liberation, another short game, has a much tougher bosses. Anyway, here’s how I went through the last few missions of the game.
Even when I am at the Silo Entrance mission, I am still thinking that there’s a lot more to go in this game. This is because the game so far like to ask me to do plenty of running for simple things.
Anyway, I was pretty confused with the map once again. The objective point clearly mark where the entrance is, but again the map confused me and I missed out the real entrance, not to mention the time limit. It’s exact location is hard to describe but for those who can’t find it, from the truck, just go up the slope, kill the guard there and continue running by going down the slope. I chose to climb up to the roof top of the building immediately after the slope and jump at the opposite end, I find this easier to escape all the guards. If you are using Snake, this suicidal jump won’t hurt you, then I make another high jump, this time to the lower level behind the building. From here, reach the other side by through the narrow slope and you will be greeted with a few guards. Their fire powers are hurtful, so it’s better if you start sprinting when they are facing the wrong side. The entrance to the Silo is right here, just walk straight after you went up from the slope and you shall see a tunnel with a save point.
I did expect a boss fight here, and was quite worry that I brought the wrong weapons again, luckily the game allows me to return to the briefing and prepare myself for a showdown with Cunningham, the guy that I hated the most in this game. I struggled quite a bit initially, as I got a M870 which doesn’t seem to hurt his floating platform. After several tries, I gave up and reach out for a guide, the first time I did this in the game. It turns out that a M63 is the most useful here, and it sure is. I just keep shooting till his platform goes down, I switch to the MK22 at this point and gave Cunningham a few shots. I only need to repeat this process a few more times and the guy is downed.
Another long cut scene with plenty of military talks follow and I am straight into another boss fight, this time with the super fast Gene. However, it’s not hard to figure out how to beat him here. It’s important that you get the Stun Grenade here, it’s located at one of the spot in this control room, this is useful when Gene began to suck your stamina with one of his special abilities. It’s easy after this, like all bosses in the game, there is a pattern to Gene’s attacking and after that you should be able to find the best time to open fires.
So the first real MGS game for the PSP ended here, I intend to challenge the extreme difficulty later. Overall, it has been quite an intense game that at times enjoyable but it does has its boring moments. I am one of those who like stats and my stats isn’t pretty enough at the moment, so that will provides plenty of motive for replay. As a newcomer to the MGS universe, the story is confusing most of the times but it won’t stop me from playing and enjoying the game. Will I buy the sequel should there be one? I think I will probably stick with waiting for MGS4.
