MHP 2nd: Portable Blog #006
One of the Famitsu reviewers said that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd could be a tough game for rookies, but I think it’s the opposite. There are far more ways to help newcomers than in the original MHP, although the reviewer is right that there are probably too many things to remember.
I have, perhaps too slowly, cleared the 2 Stars Quests of the Village Quests and I still have the feeling that I am just at the beginning of the game despite the fact that I have went through 23 Quests, not to mention repeating some of those just to get that hard to find bones. It’s just such a deep game, and last night I gave the Training School a try and it’s surprisingly fun this time.
Instead of having you chasing monsters all over the map in MHP, it really helps that Capcom lock them in a training ground now and have you face to face with them. Although that doesn’t means training in the wide open map won’t be here (I saw some ??? marks in the menu), it does motivates me to take up the challenge as the rewards are greater as well.
Rewards are probably one of the major upgrades from MHP, where it’s extremely hard to earn golds and gather items. Here you are being rewarded with just about everything, and plenty of them. I can easily accumulate more than 10,000 golds now and my items box is more than 2 pages full now. In the training, a success means 1,000 golds for you and sometimes includes those high value gold fishes.
One of the things that I am curious is why Capcom couldn’t improve the loading time for the Training School. It could easily takes up minutes to just load a training mission from the first menu. And if you are into collecting items like me, going in and out of every training is just a pain. But overall, Capcom has made the Training School far more interesting and challenging enough.
