MHP 3rd: Farming In Yukomo

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

To be honest, I think I spent more time in the village of the previous games than actually hunting :) Crafting weapons, upgrading armors and farming are a huge part of the game for me. So I'm super excited at the new look village in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, which is now called Yukomo. The farm looks completely different now but all the facilities are still around.

The manager of Yukomo Farm (above left), you'll talk to him to upgrade your farm. Upgrading requires Yukomo Points, which you can earn by submitting Account Items when hunting. On the other hand, like in previous games, there's a nice Airu who will explain everything about the farm (click for larger view).

The cats are getting more roles in the game with the introduction of Otomo Airu in the farm. Working together with them will get you more items, such as catching bugs on the trees, catch more fishes, use a special cooker that can make 10 steaks at a time (this is something I will try to do as often as possible :) and also mining trips in the caves.

Farming Fields

Farming field is great for herbs and seeds. By increasing the “Soil Level”, you will get to plant more items. Personally, I think collecting and planting herbs is still quite tedious, especially when you reached three rows of plants. Don't think they made any changes to this though. From the above screens, there seems to be new items for use exclusively in the farm.

Kinoko Woods

Blue Mushroom remains to be one of the most important items in Monster Hunter games.

Mining Spots

The trademarked cracks remain, upgrading in previous games allows you to mine better items at higher spots and offers a great view of the farm. Is there any surprises this time?

Fishing Net

Remember to bring some nets to the farm to quickly catch more fish in the river.

Honey Box

Another crucial items for the game, honey can be found in this box.

Bugs Basket

Unlike other facilities, there's a new way of catching bugs in MHP 3rd. Using some kind of incense liquid as bait, you can attract bugs into the basket. You can also use certain items like Tulip (ムチューリップ) to increase your catch. Unfortunately, the screens above does not show the process clearly.

I wonder, will pigs make it to the MHP 3?
Frontier has battle pigs, and I’d like to see them in 3rd.
