Otomo Airu is arguably the star of Monster
Hunter Portable 3rd
Hunter Portable 3rd, fighting for magazine columns with the new monsters. For people who play MH alone most of the time, this is a great news as it makes the games even more happening. There's another feature about them in a recent issue of Weekly Famitsu, which tell us about their training, skills, customization and also the Monster Nyanta Team.
Instead of the narrow kitchen in Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, Otomo Airu will now train in the Yukomo Farm. You can select the type of training you want for your Airu from the Otomo Board. And look at the amount of options on the board, this will be great for Otomo Airu lovers.
Attacking Style, Target Type, Character, etc. These are attributes that can't be trained but crucial for you to decide who to bring to the battle field.
Regulars Vs Substitutes
After the training methods, there's another tough decision to make… who should you consider “Regulars”. Only five Airu can be a Regular, with the rest being substitutes. And you can only select two from the Regular team for quests.
Otomo Airu for Multiplayer
As previously announced, if there are only two players in a multiplayer quest. Each of them gets to bring an Otomo Airu.
Special training allows you to level-up your Airu faster compare to normal training. However, only one Airu is allowed at a time. As you can see from the screens above, the types of training include breaking woods, which will increase attacks; and using Airu's body to stop a swinging trunk, which will increase its defense.
Like how you would expand Yukomo Farm, Special Training can be purchased with Yukomo Points from the Farm Manager.
Your Otomo Airu can have Otomo Skills that can be a life-saver when questing. Examples of these skills would be increase in Airu's attributes or ability to play tunes that has the antidote effects. To learn these skills, you will have make use of Otomo Points and each skill will take up a Memory Slot (there are five of them). However, you will have to complete a quest first before these skills can take effect.
A feature that has been very popular in Japan, leaving your PSP in Sleep Mode will allows the game to download other players' Otomo Airu into your game. Transferred Otomo Airu will remain in your game so no worries about losing your well-trained Airu. In MHP 3rd, you can also leave a message in your Airu for others to read.
Monster Nyanta Team
Probably a feature to replace the Torenya’s Boat, where an Airu will visit a designated map to collect items for you, in MHP 2nd and MHP 2nd G. Your Otomo Airu will turn into Hunting Cats (Nyanta) and go for their own quests using the Gagwa-powered transport you can see above. Here are the steps for this:
Each quest only support four Hunting Cats and depending on their levels, you are required to pay a certain amount of Yukomo Points. If there is not enough points, you can cut down the number of Airu in your team.
Select a quest for the team. Those selected can't be brought to your own quest.
Once return, the cats will report to you on their quest. They will also earn valuable experience points for their efforts.
