Monster Hunter: 13-Page Famitsu Feature Part II (MHP 3rd Survey)

A recent of Weekly Famitsu asked 800 MHP fans for their thoughts about the announcement of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in March. Not many surprises but the questions and a very small part of the responses are as below:

Note: Part of the feature interviewed the developers behind the Monster Hunter series, check it out here.

Monsters You’d Like To Fight Again In MHP 3rd

Yian Kut-ku

Yian Kut-ku (96 votes) is the clear winner here thanks to its role as a ‘tutor’ for new hunters. The bad-tempered pink-colored monster is always the first real monsters we have to face in MHP and will always left a lasting impression. MHP 2nd G’s star Narugakuruga (62 votes) and MHP 2nd’s Tigarex (54 votes) are 2nd and 3rd respectively.

What’s Your Opinion On Jinouga

Jinouga

Apparently, most of the readers love Jinouga, one of the three new monsters in MHP 3rd. And like me, most of the replies focus on how tough the fight will be. “Looks like a single hit will send me to the next area” says a 40-years-old lady.

What’s Your Opinion On Aoashira

The honey lover looks like a bear and is considered a medium boss. “Since this is first monster that looks like a bear, it feel fresh” “Looks cute when sitting” are among the comments for Aoashira.

What’s Your Opinion on Gagwa

GagwaFound in the new area Keiryuu (Mountain Stream), Gagwa is a small creature that people in Yukumo village like to adopt as pets. “Does it attacks with legs or mouth?” is one of the comments from the readers on Gagwa, which will be the source for steaks in MHP 3rd.

What’s The Weapon You Want To Make

Weapon making in MHP is one of the most addictive features of the game and naturally the Slash Axe (176 votes), a new weapon to MHP borrowed from Monster Hunter 3 (tri) is getting the most votes from the readers. They are interested to see how the controls will be implemented to switch between Axe and Sword mode. I have hard time using it but Gun Lance (162 votes) is not far behind, thanks to Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto comments that it will looks even cooler in MHP 3rd. Apparently some readers also heard that it can have a pretty drastic changes in its weapon path and there are videos that show how stylish it can be when mastered. Long Sword (116 votes) is my personal favorite and a 20 something girl reader say that it matches the traditional Japanese styles that the game now looks. The complete ranking for weapons is as below:

  1. Slash Axe
  2. Gun Lance
  3. Long Sword
  4. Twin Blade
  5. Great Sword
  6. Lance
  7. Bow
  8. Hunting Horn
  9. Hammer
  10. Sword and Shield
  11. Heavy Bowgun
  12. Light Bowgun

What’s Your Expectation For MHP 3rd Weapons

Famitsu readers can’t agree on whether or not Capcom should keep the current move sets of existing weapons or expand to have more. Some of the interesting replies include, “Hope to have some cute and funny weapons!” “They should not look to close to each other and must have more variety” “Hope to have Twin Blades that can have two different elementals” “Hope they can keep the controls simple” “I like the sound effects when equipping weapons, so I hope to hear more sound effects”.

What’s Your Thoughts on Yukumo

Yukumo

Our village now looks like a traditional Japanese village and full of activities. “Between Japanese and Chinese style?” “The red leafs make it feels like spring time” “Since it’s so different from previous games, I can’t wait to see how the game will match the setting” “Feel like the biggest village in the series so far” are some of the comments for this. From the concept art, Famitsu spotted some new signs. Will be interesting to see what are the new facilities our village will have.

What’s Your Most Wanted Items

Honey (181 votes) is the overwhelming winner here thanks to it being the crucial ingredients for most recovery items in the game. Net (48 votes) and Thunder Bug (38 votes) are quite far behind.

What’s Your Expectation of Otomo Airu’s Armors

Otomo Airus proved to be popular enough in MHP 2nd G for Capcom to keep them and improves their participation in the game. We can now bring a couple of these helpful cats to hunting and customize their armors. “If there is additional effects for matching Airu’s armors with what the hunter is wearing, it will be interesting.” “Hope we can issue command like ‘concentrate on picking up items’ or ‘relentless attack’” are things that the readers are looking forward to for Otomo Airu in MHP 3rd.

What Kind of Actions You Wish The Two Otomo Airu Can Perform

Join attack and watching them fooling around are two of the most common answers to this question according to Famitsu. Other interesting comments include “They try to save each other” “Command-based actions” “Special attacks that combines both Airus and the hunter” “Hope we can bring Airu if there is not enough player during multi-player quests”.

Otomo Airu’s Look or Their Abilities

64% of the readers say they are more concern about how their Otomo Airu looks than their actual abilities. Most prefer Airus to just stick around and only do some basic stuff. “I prefer them to stay cheerful while hunting or collecting items, and show off what they have found from time to time.”

How You Name Your Hunter

Most of the readers (259 votes) say they will use English to name their hunters. Kanji is at second spot with 177 votes follow by Katakana and Hiragana.

What Kind of Collaboration You’re Hoping For

Currently hot in Japan, many developers have gone overboard in their efforts to include as many brands and as many characters from other well-known series as possible in their games. The MHP series is not new to this as previous titles have include content for Famitsu and Dengeki. Unsurprisingly, thanks to the recent release of Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, quite a number of them want to see some MGS content in MHP 3rd. Other games mentioned in the survey include Lost Planet 2’s Giant Akrid and entering the Biohazard world.

Data Connection With MonHun Nikki: Poka Poka Ailu Mura

Due out in Japan later next month, Capcom has confirmed that there will be some forms of data connection between MonHun Nikki: Poka Poka Ailu Mura and MHP 3rd. Naturally, majority of the readers hope they can export their well-trained Airu to MHP 3rd. There also some who wish for bonus items in Yukumo.

Who Should Promote MHP 3rd

MHP 2nd G Commercials

Satoshi Inoue, a member Japanese comedian group Jicho Kacho is the overwhelming choice to promote MHP 3rd in Japan. Inoue is one of the columnist in Weekly Famitsu and a well-known MHP fans.

What’s Your Thoughts on MHP 3rd

Here, readers were asked to share their expectation of MHP 3rd. “Hope there will be a limited edition color PSP” “As much content as possible, then I will be extremely happy” “More attacking moves” “Hope to have habitat system like in MH3″ are among the replies. Famitsu went on to ask their readers about the series in general.

Contrary for what more people seem to like (their looks) I would like the Cat companions to be more useful in battle.
