Monster Hunter Portable 3rd: Infrastructure-Supported & Out This Year

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, the announcement we’ve been waiting for is made and what do you feel about it? I’m glad this is not a direct port of Monster Hunter 3 (tri) (not that I played Tri but after more than 4 million copies MHP2nd G sold, we are still getting port?) and it will be out at the end of this year (of course Infrastructure support is always nice). Nothing really new from the initial trailer (above) but with at least more than 8 months to go before its release, I’m pretty sure that Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and his team will have something big in store.

Our village is now called Yukumo, it’s really colorful, busier and has a pretty good ancient China feel to it. The hot spring facility is heavily promoted somehow… will Otomo Ailu be allowed in? Apparently the farm is expanded too, since I always make sure I give it a visit after every quest in the earlier games, it will now takes longer before my next quest.

The PV then cut to a hunter and two Otomo Ailus, going out for a quest. Yes two Otomo Ailus for quests now and Tsujimoto says we can now enjoy playing with three players in the Single Mode. I guess this is made to help ease new players into the game as well. Also notable is you can now do more customization your cute little partners.

Next up is the introduction of monsters and first up is a monster that looks like a combination of bear and Armadillos as some Japanese medias put it. We get to see a few returning monsters and also those from MH3. The “Image Monster”, the one that will appear in the box art and every promotional materials is a fearful (and a little ugly :) looking blue colored monster above.

Other upgrades announced are Slash Axe (from MH3) as the new weapon (which makes it 12 now) and expect some minor tweaks to the current ones. For those worried about the number of quests, it will be more than MHP 2nd but lesser than MHP 2ndG. A new field is shown in Weekly Famitsu and it’s called Keiryuu (Mountain Stream) which you can get a glimpse of it from the PV above. It appears that items collection points on the fields will be random now.

I will post complete details from the massive Weekly Famitsu report but what do you think so far? To be honest, I expect something radically different but I guess they won’t go that far for something like this now. But I am getting this anyway, maybe with the inevitable special edition PSP even :)

Sorry, I am pretty excited about this. The most important feature is definitly the infrastructure. A feature that should have been in Unite, but I’m still happy about it.

Im very excited with this game! to play it with others is real fun! sadly the only way I can do that is via ad hoc party and since the PS3 its not mines, I cant do it whenever I want. I really hope mhf3 brings the multiplayer aspect of the game to the masses of the world!
