More About Dungeon Explorer

Dungeon Explorer

I haven’t played this game before but seeing Famitsu’s recent report and the game’s fantastic looking website, plus the ARPG’s great looking graphics and what appears to be a really deep gameplay really interest me now. If you are like me, not familiar with the game, Dungeon Explorer was one of the top TurboGrafx-16 (known as PC Engine in Japan) titles back in 1989. This 3D remake will features extensive revamp in the graphics, game system and to feature 3-player co-op mode via the Ad Hoc.

From Hudson’s official fact sheet, here’s the story outline: “The evil King Natas has usurped the throne of Odessia and seeks to establish an empire that will instill fear into the hearts of the people. You must retrieve the Ora Stone that lies somewhere in the dungeons of Odessia. Find the stone before the evil King Natas claims it and become hero of the land!”

At the beginning of the game, you get to choose from three races, your character’s gender and his/her job class. This will gives you 36 different combinations for starter but more can be unlocked as you make progresses. From the screenshots given, you can change the appearance of your character as well.

The game will have single and multiplayer modes. The former is not unlike any typical RPG, you pick up a mission from the town and head to the dungeon to defeat whatever creatures that were thrown at you. Completing certain missions will also unlock special missions, increasing your reputation at the same time.

Back to the town, it’s not unlike games like Monster Hunter Portable 2nd where you can shop around, look for items shop, weapon upgrades and your own room. These and everything else in the game are great looking and the production values are really among the highest I have seen in a PSP game so far.

The game is 95% done and set for release this fall in Japan. Check out the official website for more information, with more updates planned for August 27th.
