More On Namaikida or 2’s New Features

Famitsu updated their online version of Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida or 2 latest report with more info and screens and I actually has the mag in hand now, so let’s check out what’s new. For those unfamiliar with the game, it’s a dungeon management RPG featuring retro graphics and a wacky Destruction God who must dig underground, breed some monsters and maintain a healthy food chain for them to protect himself from the RPG heroes who want to bring peace to the world. Or 2 is a sequel with plenty of new content although the first game is actually quite thin with only 8 stages, so any amount of addition is considered big.

Besides the increase in the number of maps and creatures, which was covered here, monsters in or 2 may undergo a change of form into different kind of monsters under certain condition, which could be things like hunger or being surrounded. Each of the monsters can have at least three kind of form change and their abilities will be different as well. Sometimes, form change can also fail and the monster will just become useless and lost the ability to reproduce or defend the dungeon.

Since form change normally makes the monsters stronger, the urge to purposely create some unbalance situations so that these changes can happen will surely deepen the strategy aspect of the game. Some of the mutation results can be seen in the following screens.

The most basic creature in the game world, the easy to produce slimes, become fat and turn orange in color (circled with red).

Gazigazimushi (they look like white color dogs with stripes) can become a poisonous monster when there are too many enemies around them.

The Lizard Man (blue color and carry shield) also become fat after form change, hope it won’t move slower. Also shown but not in these screens are the form change of Chrysalis and Lilies. The former is a floating creatures that can change to a fireball while the latter looks like a little girl with pink outfit and she become a fat lady after form change.

Other minor interface changes that or 2 has is Nico Nico Douga style comments all over the screens (circle with number 1 in the screen above, hope it can be turned off); Voice From Heaven, mostly likely a beep that indicate something extra ordinary like form change has occurred in the dungeon (2); a bar showing the ratio of monsters in the dungeon (3); and finally a little camera that follows the Destruction God once he has been found by the heroes (4).

A new mode called “Create A Dungeon” is introduced as a result of fans requests. Inside this mode, players can concentrate on pure dungeon management without having to worry about the annoying heroes (unless you actually call for it).

Finally, if you have cleared the first game, there will be a secret stage that can be unlocked. The budget re-release version is available at Play-Asia.com for $28.90 if you’re interested. The game itself has taken a big form change in the sequel and seems to become even more challenging, hope the fun factors are still intact. It will be available in the usual UMD format for $39.90 or can be downloaded from the Japanese PSN for around $25 this October 16th.
