One Million Slim & Lite Sold In Japan
SCEJ announced that one million units of the new PSP Slim & Lite (PSP-2000) were sold in Japan up till November 22nd, two weeks faster than the previous model (PSP-1000) managed to do. The press release contributes the success to 1Seg TV tuner and PSP’s wide screen while reminding everyone of the great first party games coming up next month.
Spurred by the success of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, the PSP has been selling consistently at around 50,000 level for weeks now even with limited amount of major releases. It will be interesting to see how much higher that figure can go next month as games like Patapon, Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaiki da, Minna no Golf Portable 2, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yakusoku, Hajime no Ippo The Fighting! Portable Victorious Spirits and Star Ocean: First Departure are among the PSP games set for release in Japan. Two new models will be out during the month as well, the limited edition “Deep Red” (PSP-2000 DR) and Star Ocean First Departure Eternal Edition.

It’s interesting to see what Sony does with regards to software in the future. They’ve been somewhat neglectful of the PSP, in my opinion, and releases have been somewhat bare because third parties have largely abandoned it in favor of the DS and Wii. Especially in the US, where there are no major releases really until March and God of War.
I hope they have another high quality RPG in store, like Jeanne D’arc or at least Brave Story.
