Radiant Mythology 2: Famitsu’s Play Impression

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2

There is a play impression of Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 up at Famitsu written by the freelance writer who contributes to the handheld section of Cross Review Panel. He (or she?) is pretty positive about the game, which scored 8,8,8,8 in Weekly Famitsu. Here’s a rough summary of what’s being said, the original article in Japanese can be read here.

TOWRM2 is considered a dungeon exploring type RPG (which the reviewer is a big fans of) that appeals to fans of the series and players who love to delve deep into their games. The reviewer says he heard people saying it’s hard to enjoy the game if you’re not fans of the Tales of series. But having only played two games from the series, he find himself enjoying the game very much because he like the structure of quest-based dungeon exploration.

The type of quests in TOWRM2 are varied, some require you to kill monsters, investigating something or fetching items. You’ll then return to your base, Van Eltia, to pick up your rewards. Besides story quests, taking on sub quests will also earn you gold and fame. Leveling up your characters is stress free and addictive too. According to the reviewer, it’s not the story or characters that draw him into the game, it’s the “chain of small motivation” that does it for him.

The character cast is being discussed next, the reviewer notes that the game is good at forcing you to use characters that you might otherwise not include in your party via sub quests that required certain characters to be in. As a result, he gets to know more of the characters and ended up using them a lot more (Refill Sage, aka Raine Sage, of Tales of Symphonia is being mentioned as a useful character in his party).

Tales of fans will surely enjoy more of the game, but the reviewer highly recommend the game to all RPG fans for its quests system that give you sense of accomplishment, high rewards when exploring dungeon and addictive character growth.
