Star Ocean Screens, First Departure Playable At TGS

There’s a lot of goodies for PSP in this week’s Famitsu, one of them is the Star Ocean remakes (click here to see why we love the series so much). You’ve probably seen the magazine scans, now here’s some direct feed screens and a brief recap of what’s new in Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution.
Animation powerhouse Production I.G. (of Ghost in the Shell series and a lot more) is handling the character design and animated cutscenes of both games. The latter will be fully voiced, as does the “Private Actions” scenes (available in the world map, where player talk to the other characters). Both will feature upgraded look and First Departure will features the same battle system with Second Evolution. New content and playable characters are being planned as well.
Specific upgrades to Second Evolution, which is set 20 years after the Star Ocean 1, are still unknown, but one of them is the facial cut-in graphic when the characters are talking. The dual heroes system, where player can either play from the perspective of the male lead Claude or female lead Rena is being kept. No dates were given but First Departure will obviously come out first and will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2007 (Sept 20-23). More direct feed screens after the jump.
