TGS 2008: The Complete PSP Line-up

Tokyo Game Show 2008

Tokyo Game Show 2008 is only a few days away (Oct 9 -12) and many publishers have announced their preliminary list of games for the show, so here’s a look at what we PSP owners can expect. Unlike previous years, where games for PSP are hard to find, this year’s show will see tonnes of them thanks to the increase in game announcements for our system in the last few months. I think the list will be quite long, so let’s get started now.

Note: These are titles confirmed going to TGS 2008 only, there are many more upcoming PSP games that are missing. Post will be updated until before the show starts on Oct 9.

Titles with * are confirmed to be playable.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ)

With PSP-3000 set for launch four days after the show (PSP-2000 launched during the show itself), Sony has plenty of opportunity to hype on their handheld that has been on a good run since the last year’s show. Ten titles have been confirmed for the show so far and I don’t think we’ll get any surprises except probably some accessories or PSN related stuff. The full game list:

Square Enix

Expect a character or two for Dissidia Final Fantasy to be revealed here, and we should be able to finally see how the special edition PSP looks like. As for surprises, I think there will be either a remake or port of another older titles being announced. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions producer Akitoshi Kawazu did mentioned Vagrant Story as the “next natural candidate” for such projects. (Official TGS 2008 page.)

Capcom

Monster Hunter 3 (tri) unveils should end any hope of next Monster Hunter Portable. Although it’s pretty much confirmed that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP The Best) will be announced, new downloadable quests announcement is a possibility as well. Other than that, I don’t think we’ll get any new thing from them while Sengoku Basara: Battle Heroes is being heavily promoted. (Official TGS 2008 page.)

  • Sengoku Basara: Battle Heroes

Koei

Three new PSP games announced in two weeks, that’s how excited Koei is with PSP. Their TGS surprises should be Shin Sangoku Musou 5 Empires and Daikoukai Jidai Online, both for the PS3. (Official TGS 2008 site.)

Level-5

The Jeanne D’Arc maker announced a couple of cool looking RPGs to the delight of all PSP owners. However, both Danboru Senki and Ushiro will only appear in trailer form. (Official TGS 2008 page.)

  • Danboru Senki
  • Ushiro

Sega

After the success of Phantasy Star Portable (almost 600,000 copies sold), I am hoping for Sega to announced a new game. At the very least, expect a new DLC for PSP and new info on the hot looking Hatsune Miku: Project Diva. (Official TGS 2008 page.)

Gungho Works

  • Solfege: Sweet Harmony
  • Mimana Iyar Chronicle
  • Zero Chou Aniki*

Marvelous Entertainment

Lack of PSP titles and a TGS blog that hints at new title give me hope that the Valhalla Knights maker has something nice for us. (Official TGS 2008 page.)

Bandai Namco Games

NBGi has plenty of high profiles game for other systems (I can’t wait for Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm), but with Macross Ace Frontier almost guaranteed of a big debut (the game is out on the first day of TGS), hypes around Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam and the idols from iDOLM@STER, the PSP section should be very busy. (Official TGS 2008 page.)

Irem

It’s nice to know that the Bumpy Trot series makers have not give up on the PSP despite poor sales of some of their previous titles, including their latest, Ikuze! Gen-San: Yuuyake Daiku Monogatari. Two new titles were announced this week for the show and I personally can’t wait to see more of Narisokonai Eiyuutan: Taiyou to Tsuki no Monogatari. Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3 will has it’s theme song unveiled at the show. (Official TGS 2008 page.)

Konami

Konami has zero PSP titles on its game list page. However, expect a release date for the delayed and highly anticipated Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Tagforce 3. Apparently, their booth is second largest after Sony, surely there will be a new PSP games in there? (Official TGS 2008 page.)

Acquire

One of the most prolific PSP developers, Acquire has a few titles that have done well in the past. There’s a secret title waiting to be announced too at the TGS 2008 page, could it be the PSP version of Tenchu 4 as rumored? (Official TGS 2008 page.)

EA Japan

Official TGS 2008 page.

Hudson

Anymore titles for the PC Engine Best Collection? (TGS 2008 official page.)

  • Moeru Mahjong: Moejong!*

Alchemist

The opening movie for Higurashi Daybreak Portable will be revealed. (Official TGS 2008 page.)

From Software

  • Onore no Shinzuru Michi Wo Yuke*

Updates:

  1. From Software’s list added.
  2. Dissidia Final Fantasy special edition PSP possibility and rumored Tenchu 4 for PSP added.
