The New Monsters of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

forextradingsystemss.com

Less than seven weeks before we'll find out how it's like to be fighting Jinouga, cover monster of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (MHP 3rd), in the night. The fierce (and odd) looking giant appears to have a completely new attacking mode in the night, shielding itself with a giant electric field that also send out electric waves randomly across the field.

There has been lot's of MHP 3rd information since my last post ages ago :) The following updates are up to and include the information from the last Weekly Famitsu issue that has MHP 3rd info in it.

New Monsters

The amount of new monsters seem ridiculously large this time and a good reason to justify the not so cool hiked up price of $59.90 ($69.90 if you pre-order now) at .

Rangurotora

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

Part of the Fanged Beast Species, Rangurotora is a nasty looking monster with leathery armor shell. Residing in the volcanoes and sandy areas, it can turn itself into a giant red ball that appears to land randomly. It also uses its tongue to capture preys and spit paralyzing liquid at them. Like the Baba Konga, it also release yellow colored gas that make some of your items temporarily unusable.

Hapurubokka

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

The desert is never a friendly place to hunt for me personally and with this weird looking monster around, I think I am going to hate desert even more. Beside its ridiculously large mouth, Hapurubokka is also extremely good at detecting the location of its prey. One of its move is to pop out from the sand suddenly to eat everything insight. With such a big mouth, its inevitable that some amount of sand will be in its stomach and obviously it will be used to spit at the hunters. Famitsu aptly describe it as the Shark of the desert, especially when looking at the way it launch itself at the hunter. The magazine also reckon that the red ball inside its mouth is Hapurubokka's major weak point.

Zuwaroposu

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

A Herbivorous, a male Zuwaroposu is giant looking and will not run away even when there's a giant monster around. Besides the Flooded Forest (first appear in Monster Hunter 3 (tri) (MH3), the map sees many of its water areas change to land in MHP 3rd), it's super thick skin means that Zuwaroposu can also survive in volcanoes.

Urukususu

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

This rabbit inspired monsters can be found in the snowy areas and belong to the Fanged Beast Species. It has incredible hearing abilities though it was not mentioned if it means getting closer to it quietly is impossible. One of its trademark attack is to slide towards the hunter with incredible speed using its snowboard-like stomach. On the other hand, swinging quickly with its forelegs will surely create some messy situation in tight area especially with two Otomo Airu around.

Bear hugging is another powerful attack from Urukususu that seems to guarantee huge damage if hit and as usual for this type of monsters, it can throw snow balls franticly at you. Just when you think that it probably easy to attack a large monster like this from behind, it also launches claw-swinging attacks which seems to reach far wider areas than it appears to be able to.

Dosufurogi

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

A close relative to MH3's Dosujagii and like to move in groups, Dosufurogi also spit purple-colored poisonous gas that spread to relatively large area. To make it even more annoying, it can also calls for helps.

Aoashira

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

The fish and honey lover has apparently been spotted nearby Yukomo by villagers and fight like a boxer sometimes. Together with Black Tigarex and Roarudorosu, Aoshira is available at Tokyo Game Show 2010 for play testing.

Gagwa

A friend to the villagers at Yukumo, Gagwa still retaliate when attacked. However, they are easily scared and will drop eggs when in shock. You can create items out of these eggs and Famitsu reckons there might be quest where players need to transfer Gagwa's eggs. Some of the more irritating quest for me.

Subspecies

Black Tigarex

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

Finally there is an alternate version of Tigarex, which was almost the show stopper for me in MHP 2nd. Appearing only in the volcanoes, Black Tigarex boosts all attacking moves of a regular Tigarex but has a Giant Roar that can blow away all unlucky hunters nearby.

Kurupezko Subspecies

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

First appeared in MH3, Kurupezko comes to PSP with a few new moves. The dancing Bird Dragon can now attract bigger monsters (Black Tigarex was shown) to the area to make things even more complicated. The Lightning Stone on its wings can stun hunters with super fast lightning attack. Other attacking moves from the original version include spitting sticky green liquid, flashing light and continuous beak attack.

Boruborosu Subspecies

Monster Hunter Portable 3rdThe sand covered monster from MH3 can now be found in the snow areas too and instead of sand, it can shakes off ice on its body that can slow down hunters' movements significantly when hit. Another trademarked attack is smashing its head against the ground which also produce the same ice rain effects.

Roaru Dorosu Subspecies

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

Also called Purple Water Dragon, Roaru Dorosu Subspecies always stay in the watery areas and famed for its poisonous attacks. Beside spitting poison liquid, it also produces poison gas by slamming itself to the ground. The monster can be seen in the Deserted Island, another area that is being transferred from MH3 with plenty of changes.

Bathing Hall

A replacement for Guild Hall in the previous games, Bathing Hall presents more opportunity for cool facilities. Quest Area is pretty self explaining, while Gathering Area lets players buy items at the Hunters Store and enjoy spa. Besides, players can go directly to their home from Bathing Hall to change their armors and weapons. If you have played the previous games, there's not much surprises below the refreshed environment. The friendly ladies at the Quest Counter still around, Quest Board is slightly larger while the quest interface now looks nicer too.

Previous reports mentioned that visiting the spa will gives you special bonus before going to quest, just like eating in the Airu Kitchen before this. While the cats in the kitchen upgrade themselves, you will need to take on “Spa Quest” in MHP 3rd in order to upgrade the water quality of the spa which in return will give you better effects. These quests, which can be received by talking to an Airu in the Bathing Hall, include looking for new hot springs and hunting certain type of monster. An example quest shown was killing five Bullfango in the Keiryuu area.

Drink Quest is another type of quest that you can get from the same Airu and it is used to

increase the type of Spa Drink in the Drinking Shop. Spa Drink can be used to give your hunter special “Drink Skill” during quest. An example quest given is to find 15 Special Bamboo in the Keiryuu area.

Like the drinking area in the Guild Hall of previous games, you can of course display various type of action when bathing.

Fake Fishing Lure

Never have to worry about bring enough fishing lure anymore with Fake Fishing Lure that let you fish for unlimited number of times.

Pop Icon

Indicates if there are items on the ground or climbable spot.

Temporary Submit

Previously, you can only submit your Account Items at the end of quest in exchange for points or money but MHP 3rd allows you to submit them anytime at the Red colored box near your camp.

Nyan Jiro

Monster Hunter Portable 3rdIf you are like me, always max out your item pouch when questing, MHP 3rd has a couple of new features to help make sure our Item Box at home looks pretty. Temporary Pouch is an extra 8 slot pouch that is available only when questing. Another helpful feature is the present of Nyan Jiro, who is the FedEx of the game but free of charge. You can ask the nomad cat to help transport some of your items to your home. However, you can only do this only once per quest.

News From Tokyo Game Show 2010

MHP 3rd X MGSPW

Capcom also announced their collaboration with Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker during TGS2010. There will be special quests that feature Snake, The Boss and your Otomo Airu will be able to wear the Sneaking Suits and hide in boxes.

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd will be out this December 1st in Japan. The Japanese version is at Play-Asia and $61.99 at YesAsia. However, there is a much cheaper alternative, Play-Asia also have the Asia version at and as far as I know, this is the Japanese version with an extra Chinese manual. I pre-ordered the Japanese version months ago (for $59.90) and the prospect of losing my number in the queue stop me from switching to the Asia version.
