What’s New In Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus

One of the biggest recent announcements for PSP is certainly Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus, of which Weekly Famitsu dedicated 16 pages to show us the 18 anime series and countless MS that will be featured in the game. There is also an interview with the developers (Producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya from Capcom and BNGi’s Kay Hirono & Yoshitaka Goto). The game is coming out this December in Japan (pre-order is available at Play-Asia for $64.90). Read on to find out the PSP exclusive elements or just check out the 30 over screens after the jump.

After discussing why the VS. series is so popular in Japan, the developers talk about the advantages of PSP to the series. Hirono think that players can enjoy the game at their own pace and the fact that they can also carry it around to play with friends are two special advantages that the PSP has. He also highlighted the fact that it is the first time Unicorn Gundam (image above), which was only added to the arcade version last month, is featured on consoles or handhelds and players will be able to enjoy scenes from the upcoming anime before anyone else.
New MS: Reborns Gundam
Piloted by Ribbons Almark, Reborns Gundam is known for its ability to switch from Gundam to Cannon during combat. Bandai Namco is still pretty tight lipped on its spec for PSP though. Click on the thumbnail for super large view.

New Element: NEXT Dash System

By rapidly tapping the jump button twice, players can cancel any moves they are making and activate the Dash Movement which allows them to quickly recover from a fail attacking attempt or make consecutive attacks.
New Element: Battle With Mobile Armor (MA)
Some of the battles against CPUs will have objectives like destroying Mobile Armor (MA).
New Element: NEXT-PLUS

The reason behind the title of the PSP version is this original feature for the handheld, players get to pick four of their favorite MS to form a team and take on countless missions of various objectives. These missions will earn them valuable Experience Points to “Tune UP” their MS. Players can also team up with their friends to tackle the harder missions. Apparently there will more on this feature in upcoming reports.

The main selling points of the series is here to stay.

Located at the top left corner of the screen is the Battle Gauge, which will determines the winner and loser.
System: Mobile Assist
Players can call for attacking or defensive support depending on the type of MS they are using.
