Famitsu Cross Review: Phantasy Star Portable 2, Gundam vs. Gundam & Tokimeki

Next Thursday will see three big PSP releases (not as big as New Super Mario Bros. Wii obviously :) and Weekly Famitsu has given their verdicts of the games. Both Phantasy Star Portable 2 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus are equally good according to them, as the panel gave them an impressive 34/40. PSP2 get an extra 1 point compare to the first game while Gundam vs. Gundam is 2 points better than the original. Fans of Tokimeki Memorial 4 (screen above) will be pleased to know that the game receives 33/40 from the four, who also gave Mario’s latest adventure on the Wii a perfect 40/40.

Kshatriya, Providence Gundam, Apsalus and Dendrobium are the new Mobile Suits being revealed in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu for Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus. Game is looking more and more awesome :) Play-Asia now has the Asia version $10 cheaper at $54.90.

Famitsu posted some new screens of Bandai’s hot looking game Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus, which will be out early next month in Japan. Zeong, The-O and Reborns Gundam are confirmed to be playable and a couple of Mobile Armors are shown too. More screens after the jump.

Gundam vs. Gundam: What’s Inside NEXT-PLUS Mode

We knew Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus comes with an original mode for PSP called NEXT-PLUS from previous report, players can form their own MS team to take on various missions to gain Experience Points. The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu shares more details about the mode’s Skill System, Special Missions and multiplayer.

Experience Points can be used to buy Skills, which are unique to each MS and can be assigned to your 4-member team before going into a mission (there are more than 250 of them). Special Missions can be unlocked once certain conditions have been met, the mission structure is displayed as a branching tree as shown in the lower left of the picture (click for large view). You can also co-op with or fight against your friends in NEXT-PLUS Mode (local multiplayer only). The former should help you on the tougher missions while the latter take place on special map and players can set their own rules to determine the winner.

Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus is coming out early December in Japan, Play-Asia has the game available for pre-order at $64.90.

One of the biggest recent announcements for PSP is certainly Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus, of which Weekly Famitsu dedicated 16 pages to show us the 18 anime series and countless MS that will be featured in the game. There is also an interview with the developers (Producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya from Capcom and BNGi’s Kay Hirono & Yoshitaka Goto). After the successful release of the PSP version of Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam, it’s a matter of time before its sequel getting ported to the system as well and the upcoming issue of Weekly Famitsu just confirmed that with news of Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus coming this December to Japan. Among the new additions are new Mission Mode and the participation of Reborns Gundam, Wing Gundam ZERO and Gundam Nataku. More info later this week.
